Joanne B. Ciulla is Professor and Coston Family Chair in Leadership and Ethics at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies, the University of Richmond. She is a founding faculty member of the Jepson School, which is the only degree granting school of leadership studies in the world. Dr. Ciulla has held the UNESCO Chair in Leadership Studies at the United Nations International Leadership Academy in Amman, Jordan and academic appointments at La Salle University, the Harvard Business School, The Wharton School, Boston University, and Oxford University. She is a recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia.

Dr. Ciulla has a BA, MA, and Ph.D. in philosophy. Her books include The Working Life: The Promise and Betrayal of Modern Work (also published in Chinese and Japanese), Ethics, The Heart of Leadership, and The Ethics of Leadership. She recently coauthored Honest Work, A Business Ethics Reader and co-edited The Quest for Moral Leaders. She is currently writing a book on the origins of leadership. Ciulla is on the editorial boards of The Business Ethics Quarterly, Leadership, and is an associate editor of the Leadership Quarterly. She edits a series of books called New Horizons of Leadership for Edward Elgar, Publishing.

In addition to teaching and writing, Dr. Ciulla lectures and consults on business ethics and leadership with universities, businesses and government organizations all over the world. She has conducted programs for with the Aspen Institute, the Brookings Institution, and the World Economic Forum. Dr. Ciulla also sits on the board of directors of the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation.
